What is CNC machining?

CNC machining is a subtractive manufacturing process: raw material is removed with precision cutting tools to produce your part. Advanced CAM software drives the equipment according to your 3D design while our engineers optimize cutting time, surface finish and tolerances.

Advantages

  • Quick removal of large amounts of material
  • Highly accurate and repeatable
  • Wide range of engineering materials
  • Scalable from one-offs to low-volume production
  • Low tooling investment and fast turnaround

Capabilities

CNC lathes for plastics and metals — complex external geometries and internal bores. EDM and wire EDM for hardened steel, pockets and mold textures. Multi-axis milling for cosmetic surfaces and complex 3D shapes.

General industry tolerance is often ±0.2 mm; at Unique Prototype we can target ±0.01 mm depending on geometry and material. Project managers review each job for the highest precision that is practical.

Materials

Plastics: ABS, PMMA, POM, PBT, PA, PC, PP, PPS, PEEK, HDPE, PEI and more.

Metals: aluminum, stainless steel, steel, zinc, magnesium, copper, brass, titanium and more — including customer-supplied stock when agreed.

Frequently asked questions

What CNC tolerances can Unique Prototype hold?

General industry tolerance is often ±0.2 mm; depending on geometry and material we can target ±0.01 mm. Each drawing is reviewed for the highest precision that is practical before machining.

Which CNC processes do you offer?

Milling, turning, EDM and wire EDM on imported multi-axis equipment — suitable for plastics and metals from prototypes through low-volume production.

What is the typical lead time for CNC parts?

Lead time depends on complexity, quantity and finishing. Simple prototypes can ship in a few business days after DFM approval; production batches are quoted with a firm schedule.
